Storing 200 records: what to look for in a rack
Past about 150 records, a small holder stops coping. This guide covers what matters when you choose a rack for 200.
Capacity and thickness
A rack rated for 160 to 200 LPs is quoting a range because records vary. Thin singles pack to the top of it. Gatefolds and boxed sets take more room, so plan towards the lower figure and leave some slack so browsing stays easy.
Two tiers, one footprint
Splitting storage over two tiers keeps the rack slim. It stands 78.7cm tall but only 40.6cm wide, so it fits where a wide shelf would not.
Records and books together
A rack with side sections for books and magazines does two jobs. It keeps the collection and the reading pile in one place.
Looking after it
Wipe the matte finish with a barely damp cloth and dry it. Load both tiers evenly and tighten the fixings after the first week of use.
